Sevilla March 11, 2020

On Wednesday we all went off to Sevilla. Having been advised not to attempt parking in town we went to the San Juan Bajo Metro stop and took the subway. It worked perfectly and we arrived at the Puerta Jerez stop with in site of The Golden Tower.

The tower was built in 1220 and formed part of the city's defence. A chain connected the Terre Del Oro, or the Golden Tower to another tower on the other side of the Guadulquivir River stopped boats form going any further. The cupola shaped top was added in 1760. We almost immediately made our first and only mistake. Without sufficient research we all hopped on a bus to see the city and get off when we saw something interesting. This was a mistake in two ways. First we did not explore all the old sites surrounding us and we did not get off. Having largely wasted almost 2 hours we went to and excellent lunch.

Following lunch we broke down and actually saw some of what we came to see. We visited The Cathedral of Saint Mary of the See (Spanish: Catedral de Santa MarĂa de la Sede) better known as Sevlla's Cathedral. We were told it is the third largest Christian church in the world. It is 11,520 meters only Basilica Of The National Shrine Of Our Lady Of Aparecida, Aparecida, Brazil, 12000 square meters and St.Peter’s Basilica, Vatican City, 15160 square meters are larger. It was very hard to get a picture of the out side. The streets are very narrow and we were in a rush when we got out. We did not go in the main doors, but entered by the side. This is the side door.

 More to come after bowling.
